“Hooray Summer” Book Giveaway!

Because you guys are so friggin’ awesome and got me up to 200 blog members in NO TIME FLAT, guess what? I’m following through on my promise to host an amazing book giveaway so you’ll have something to read as the days get longer and hotter!

I was hoping to get my hands on an ARC of a YA novel coming out later this year, but unfortunately, it turns out there are no more advance copies to be had. Sad, right? But, never fear – I have some great books for you to win!

Here’s how this is going to work: Since there are about 200 members of this blog, I will give two (2) lucky winners the book of their choice from the options below.

If I am so blessed as to have 250 blog members by the end of this contest – which will be on June 30 – I’ll pick a third winner and let them choose a book from the options below as well!

And if I somehow reach 300 blog members by June 30? You guessed it – a fouth winner will have their pick of the options below!

So, what books can you win? Well let me just tell you!

The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

A teenage boy, Thomas, wakes up in a giant maze with no idea how he got there or who all the boys around him are. He can’t remember who his family is or anything about himself, except for his first name.

Once a month for two years, a new boy has shown up in the maze and joined the strange society that has developed there – but then a girl appears, and Thomas feels like he somehow knows her from somewhere…

Even as the Maze seems to prove itself more unsolvable with each passing day, Thomas is determined to become a Runner and find a way out – even if it means risking death for all of them.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.

It’s been generations since the world was taken over by the “Unconsecrated” – the living dead that inhabit the Forest outside of Mary’s village. Her father has already been taken, and when her mother follows in his footsteps, Mary is left with only the Sisterhood to turn to.

Now, she’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the village Guardians’ power. And when the fence around the village is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she learns even more about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness.

Now she must make a decision that will affect her future forever… Could there be life outside the walls of the village? Is there anything beyond the Forest?

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher.

Even though Finn has been inside the prison for as long as he can remember, he somehow thinks that maybe he came from Outside – although this is supposed to be impossible.

Claudia, daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, is trapped outside the prison by a society that forbids change. She lives in a 17th century world even though it is centuries later. Betrothed to a man she cannot stand, Claudia  must find a way out of the marriage.

Neither knows the other exists… until they each find a crystal key that allows them to communicate. And when Claudia discovers that Incarceron – a prison so massive it houses forests, cities, and seems to have no end – is not the paradise it was supposed to be, she is determined to rescue her new friend Finn – but she has to find the prison first.

I’ve read all these books and LOVED THEM, so you basically can’t go wrong! Anyway, here’s how you can enter and, behold, even gain extra entries into this contest:

  1. Oo…shiny new books. Woot!

Hm, let’s see…a good book I’ve recently read. I loved, loved Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. And I just started Ella Minnow Pea, and it’s so cute and a really fun way to play with words and I’m really enjoying it (but it’s not YA, so…you know. I have a little prejudice about it.)

  2. I’m hurting for a good book to read! I’ve finished a few, but not fallen in love with anything for a while. I have reader’s block. I need help. I wonder how many sentences I can start with “I”?

One of my all time favorites is “Beauty” by Robin McKinley. What’s not to love about that story?

  3. Those 3 books are all on my wishlist! Great choices for prizes 🙂

The best book I’ve finished recently was The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. Great story – written from the perspective of an autistic teen. Fabulous.

  4. Great giveaway! I love the books!
I just finished reading Shade and absolutely loved it!

  5. Whoo hoo! Congratulations on reaching 200 followers! I knew you’d do it in no time flat. You can count on me to tweet about this giveaway, it rocks! Every one of these books looks fantastic!

  6. Oh, you know I’ll pimp your contest for you, honey. Especially since you asked so nicely an’ all.

Great book I read recently? As far as fiction goes, Woolf’s “To the Lighthouse” was the most recent I read. Talk about a brilliant prose style! I admit, though, that’s not very good beach reading (even though it’s got a lighthouse in it).

For beach reading, how about anything by Terry Pratchett? That way you can giggle and snarf your way into major public embarrassment, and not be able to explain in less than 34 sentences what was so funny. 🙂

  7. Yes. I recently read Day One by Bill Cameron. It came out yesterday and I was blessed to read a signed ARC.

I will tweet and facebook this contest right now. Love you.

  8. Oh great contest! And congrats on all the followers!! 🙂

I recently read and loved SHADE by Jeri Smith-Ready and Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Two of the best books I’ve read in the last year at least, and two of my favorites now.

  9. I’ve recently been reading the Pretty Little Liars book series, and also my latest finished read was “Uglies” by Scott Westerfield. A lovely novel, and I really want to go out and buy “Pretties”, the second of the series!

  10. So I am currently rediscovering some classics that I’ve missed out on (mostly at my husbands encouragement). Right now I’m reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and am actually enjoying this classic!!

  11. So excited to find this site!! Not only bcause I know anne but because I love to read and teach high school English. I recently read a RD select book and read two I loved. Two new authors for me will north “water, stone, heart” and adriana ?? “My valentine” . I am not at home so think that’s right. Looking forward to reading this site often.

  12. Woo, free books AND a new blog to follow! Awesome!

    I’ve tweeted about this (@blanchardauthor)
I’ve posted it on my facebook profile (!/profile.php?id=1625686537)
I’ve even blogged about it. (

And, I’m going to plug a good book I’ve recently read. Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George. It’s a fantastic book that is truly a fairy tale in the best sence of the term. The characters are fasinating, the story is wonderful and magical and the best part is that she keeps you guessing about the exact nature of the curse. I highly recomend it.

  13. I am currently reading Willow by Julia Hoban. It is great, if you have not read it you should.

  14. I just finished reading a well-written and fun murder mystery by a fine writer and blogger, Patricia Stoltey: The Prairie Grass Murders. I’ll soon be posting a review of the novel and an interview with Pat on my blog.
