About Anne

anne riley author

Nice to meet you!

I live in Birmingham, Alabama, with my family. By day, I am the Vice President of Production at a digital marketing agency; by early morning or late evening (depending on the day), I am a writer, editor, and author.

My published books include Shadows of the Hidden and Pull, both young adult works; Voyage to the Star Kingdom, a children’s book; and Off With Their Heads, the first in my new cozy mystery series. Voyage to the Star Kingdom was recently contracted for Chinese translation rights by The Gospel Coalition. And as of 2020, I am the owner and founder of Wordsmith Books, LLC, my very own publishing company.

My alma mater is the University of Alabama, where I earned a degree in advertising & PR and a second major in Spanish. That second major came in handier than I ever expected, as it allowed me to spend ten years teaching high school Spanish at a couple of Birmingham-area private schools.

I moved into marketing just a few months before the birth of our third child, working initially as a part-time work-from-home editor. About a year later, I found myself running a small team of copywriters, and now I lead an entire production department made up of four separate teams.

My husband, Rob, works at a small investment firm here in Birmingham. Our three daughters attend the local public school, and their interests are as varied as their personalities: the oldest loves art in all forms, the middle shows great athletic promise, and the youngest is headed for a life on the stage. These are sweeping generalizations, of course, but we love to watch their interests develop!

Over the years, I’ve been honored to speak at many different places and events, including Jacksonville State University, Auburn University, Alabama Ag Communicators, TEDx SamfordU, Decatur Book Festival, the Alabama Reading Association Conference, Birmingham Local Authors Expo, Batten Disease Support & Research Association Family Conference, Parkview High School Baccalaureate, and multiple schools in the Birmingham area. Some of these were affiliated with marketing and others with authoring, but all of them were a blast!

Additionally, I’ve been named among the Top Women in Alabama Media by Business Alabama and among the 100 People to Know in Shelby County by Shelby County Reporter. You can find some of my freelance work in Shelby Living and Hoover’s Magazine.

I hold a special place in my heart for tidy spaces and quiet moments, and my favorite hobby is reading a great book while sipping a hot cup of tea.
