Hi Grasshoppers! I’m popping in to tell you about my very exciting business venture, Yellowhammer Literary Services. In order to keep this short and sweet, I’m going to give you all the details in FAQ format.
What is Yellowhammer Literary Services?
It is my new side business. I’m offering two distinct services to authors: editorial services and query assistance.
What does “editorial services” mean?
It means I’ll go through your manuscript and–based on which package you choose–give you detailed feedback on anything from punctuation to plot holes. You can choose how much you want me to edit, how much you want to spend, and what you want me to look for.
Regardless of which type of critique you select, you can rest assured I’ll give you thorough, thoughtful feedback with plenty of details and suggestions. There’s even an option to Skype with me about your manuscript!
What does “query assistance” mean?
It means if you’re about to start querying, or maybe you’ve been querying for a while but you’re not getting any bites, then I AM HERE FOR YOU.
I will compile a spreadsheet with detailed information on agents who seem compatible with you and your manuscript. This spreadsheet will includes the agent’s name, the name of their agency (if applicable), links to helpful interviews/guest posts they’ve done, their social network handles, tips on their interests (in general and in manuscripts), names of other authors they represent, submission guidelines, and expected date of reply.
In short, it’s everything you need to write a personalized, professional, and well-informed query letter.
Why would I hire you, Anne Riley, to do this?
Because I freaking KNOW this stuff inside and out. I’ve been writing for publication for over five years, I’ve gotten two agents, I’ve revised four complete novels, I’m traditionally published, I’ve worked with agents and editors on revisions, I’ve critiqued dozens of manuscripts for friends…
I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t feel 100% confident in my editing skillz. (See, if this were a manuscript, I would change “skillz” to “skills.” BOOM.)
Why did you name your business after a bird?
The Yellowhammer is Alabama’s state bird. I am from Alabama. So I guess it’s what you would call a “shout out” to my state.
How stressed out are you over the possibility that there’s a typo in this blog post?
SO STRESSED OUT I CAN’T EVEN.
Where can I find information on your prices, etc.?
I made a handy little page all about YLS. You can find it here.
What is your schedule like?
Right now, it’s wide open. Email me at yellowhammerliterary (at) gmail (dot) com to book your slot!
