And We’re Off

So, it’s August. The sixth of August, to be exact. And do you know what happens exactly eight days from now?

Which means that, while my face currently looks like this…

…it will soon look more like THIS.

That’s right. In the next week, I will age approximately forty-five years AND get into the habit of wearing a black witch’s hat.

AUGUST IS CRUEL, my friends.

So I’ve got training all week at school, and as a result I am starting to feel the pressure of LESSON PLANS and SEATING CHARTS and other schooly-type things. It’ll be fine, really; I love my job, as evidenced by the fact that I continue to work here in spite of the HR people from various companies who approach me once every few months to say, “Boy, we could really use someone who speaks Spanish! Do you have any interest in banking / medicine / nonprofits / advertising / kitten juggling / unicorn riding?”

Because, as we all know, the demand for Spanish-speaking kitten jugglers is OFF THE CHARTS.

Bonus points if you can name this movie.

(If I was a Spanish-speaking kitten juggler, I think my stage name would be “Ana, Malabarista de los GATITOS!” which sounds cool but really isn’t very creative because it just means “Anne, Kitten Juggler.”)

(Also, I would NEVER hurt the kittens or cause them any emotional grief. I would only use the kittens who ENJOYED being juggled. Maybe there’s a special breed for that, like the Maine Coons that enjoy water.)

In non-kitten juggling news, I’m making EXCELLENT progress on revising SHADOWS, which is good since I need to send it back to my publisher by the end of the month. I’m also making progress on my short story for WINTER WONDERS.

(Okay, I’ve got like 500 words. But that is NOT BAD, people. I’m short story impaired. Writing an 80,000 word novel is MUCH more doable for me than writing a 5,000 word short story.)

And then there is the small matter that Agent Emma is taking PULL on submission soonish.

*passes out*

I may have just sent her an email that said ARE YOU SURE THIS IS READY OMG OMG I AM SKEERED.

The good thing is that since I signed with her in May, she’s grown to love my quirks and crazy emails with AN ABUNDANCE OF CAPS LOCK.

I’m fairly certain that I’m not allowed to give details once the manuscript is actually out, so consider this all the information you will receive until there is something definite to tell. Which will be either IT SOLD! or… not.

Also, I am still going to do that big post on my faith. I am. Soon, Grasshoppers. Soon.

Love you all. Now GO KICK MONDAY IN THE KNEES and take this week by the horns. GO! I’ll be here when you get back.

  1. If it is any consolation, we are already back in school. But we go year round so though our summer is shorter, we get a week off after every grading period – which is REALLY. NICE. 😀

  2. Ugh…I don’t even want to THINK about going back to school. (Mainly because it involves starting something brand new and I’m scurred.)

    Good luck on sub!

  3. Don’t feel bad, I think 500 words is about what I have on my story for Winter Wonders too. It’s tough to get into the winter mood when it’s 95 out! Hang in there, PULL will do fantastic on sub. 🙂

  4. Ooh, this post was so much fun! I love your voice and your humor. And I’m with you – an 80,000-word novel is so much easier than a short story. You can add fun things like subplots! And character arcs! And backstory! And a fully resolved plot!

Sounds like we’re at about the same point, too – both agented, both in the beginning stages of submission. Best of luck to you! May your subs go well and may your book sell quickly to your dream publisher.
